Veronie earns top player homors

The Church Point Bears are undefeated at 4-0 after a 49-33 win over the Loreauville Tigers.
Christian Veronie led the offense with 170 yards on 12 carries and scored on runs of 24 and 58 yards as well as a 31-yard reception.
For his efforts, Veronie is selected the Eunice News Player of the Week for Sept. 21-27.
St. Edmund quarterback Drew Brown completed 25-of-47 passes for 319 yards and five touchdowns in the Blue Jays’ 46-32 loss to Opelousas Catholic. He also rushed 15 times for 46 yards.
Mamou quarterback Dyan Duplechain completed 14-of-22 passes for 169 yards and a score in the Green Demons’ 28-14 loss to Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
Church Point’s Troy Matte completed 6-of-11 passes for 148 yards and two touchdown passes, while Frederick Williams had 124 yards on five carries, including a 80-yard touchdown run in the Bears’ win over Loreauville.
Basile’s Gabe Fontenot finished with 131 yards on 22 carries including a 30-yard run in the Bearcats’ 29-6 win over Merryville.
Mark Ivory completed 4-of-9 passes for 103 yards including am 81-yard scoring strike to Ty Walker, while adding two more scores rushing for the Bearcats.
The Basile defense limited Merryville to 23 yards of total offense.
St. Edmund’s Drake Brunet finished with 10 catches for 108 yards and two scores in the Blue Jays’ loss to OC. Cullen Brown added five catches for 91 yards and a touchdown.
Eunice’s Ty Ceaser had nine carries for 93 yards with a 5-yard touchdown run in the Bobcats’ 48-0 win over Opelousas.
