Hit and run vehicle kills bicycle rider

A hit and run crash on LA 92 at Mermentau Road east of Milton has claimed the life of a Youngsville man and left Troopers searching for a suspect vehicle.
At 7:03 a.m., Troopers were notified of a white male and a bicycle in the south ditch of LA 92 at Mermentau Road. Preliminary investigation revealed 30-year-old Lon Lomas of Youngsville was traveling east on LA 92 on a bicycle and was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle. The bicycle and Lomas came to rest in the south ditch of LA 92. Lomas received fatal injuries as a result of the crash and was pronounced dead on scene by the Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office.
It is unknown if impairment was a factor in the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were taken and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
