Legislature bans 'vapes' for under-18

The Legislature has agreed electronic cigarettes shouldn't be sold to anyone under the age of 18 in Louisiana.
With a 34-0 vote Thursday, the Senate gave final passage to a bill outlawing sales of e-cigarette, vaporizers and other alternative nicotine products to minors, like the state already does for cigarette sales.
The measure by Ruston Sen. Rick Gallot, a Democrat, heads to the governor's desk.
E-cigarettes and vaporizers are battery-powered devices that provide users with aerosol puffs that typically contain nicotine, and sometimes flavorings like fruit, mint or chocolate. Users get their nicotine without the chemicals, tar or odor of regular cigarettes.
Gallot has described the prohibition as a safety measure, but health groups disagree on the risks of the products.
