Marksville mayor's race incumbent, newcomer

It became official late on Friday afternoon when qualifying for the mayor’s race in Marksville ended, that Minnie Laborde Lafargue and John Lemoine will face off in the April 5 election.
Qualifying closed with those two being the only candidates to sign up to run for the mayor’s position.
Lemoine is the incumbent seeking his second term in office. Before becoming mayor, Lemoine was a long-time member of the Avoyelles Parish School Board. Lafargue is a political newcomer, having never run for office before, however, her family has long been on the political scene in Avoyelles Parish.
Her father, Raymond Laborde, was a mayor of Marksville, former state representative and former Louisiana Commissioner of Administration.
City council races for Marksville were also originally set to be held on April 5 but were postponed until November when it was discovered that a re-districting plan had not been sent to the Louisiana Secretary of State office for approval.
In Bunkie, Mayor Mike Robertson was elected to a second term as he was unopposed. T
