Missing Fla. teen suffers critical stab wounds before cops chase down alleged kidnapper's truck

On Wednesday, at approximately 10:15 pm, Lafayette Police was notified of a car chase traveling on I-10 towards Lafayette by the Louisiana State Police. Information indicated that the suspect operating the vehicle was accompanied by a missing Florida teenager. The two were observed by witnesses at a truck stop in Grosse Tete, who notified law enforcement.
The truck entered the City of Lafayette and was pursued by multiple agencies. Tire spikes had been deployed on the suspect’s vehicle, deflating 5 of the 6 tires. The truck came to a stop on the I-10 overpass at North University Avenue after one of the tires caught fire. The suspect driving the vehicle exited the driver’s door with a knife in hand and approached officers. Officers deployed a Taser and a Lafayette Police Department K-9, disarming the suspect and taking him into custody. The 16-year-old female was removed from the truck and transported to an area hospital with multiple stab wounds. She is listed in critical condition. The suspect, Steven P. Myers, 41, was transported to an area hospital and is listed in serious but stable condition. Myers suffered from the K-9 bite and multiple stab wounds.
Detectives with the Lafayette Police Department continue to work with the other law enforcement agencies involved. Upon his release from the hospital Myers will face multiple charges, to include Attempted Murder. The investigation remains ongoing.
