Mother, son busted in alleged postal narcotics scheme

A mother and her son allegedly tried to use the U.S. Postal Service as a way to receive illegal drugs but were caught by the Vermilion/Municipal Task Force and the United Sates Postal Inspector.
On Valentine’s Day agents with the Vermilion Parish Task Force, along with United States Postal Inspectors, conducted two search warrants simultaneously at 5629 Albert Road and 5623 Albert Road in Vermilion Parish.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon states that this investigation has been ongoing for several months.
“We received information that illicit narcotics may have been being transported via the Postal Service to the residences. This type of investigation is long and arduous, so the Task Force and the USPS opened a very detailed investigation as to the legitimacy of the allegations. On Friday, postal inspectors intercepted a package suspected to contain illicit drugs.
“Upon applying for a search warrant, the two residences were taken down and arrests were made.”
After execution of the warrant, agents seized approximately two pounds of high-grade marijuana with a street value of $22,400.
Also seized in the search were an AK47 rifle and a 9 millimeter handgun.
“One disturbing trend we found was that one of the arrestees, Nanette Huntsberry (Date of birth, 10/29/64 of 5629 Albert Road), who is a long-time postal employee, seemed to be acting as a front for her son Jabori Huntsberry (Date of birth 7/8/92 of 5623 Albert Road.).”
Nanette was charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, while Jabori was charged with conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of marijuana.
Couvillon also stated that other arrests are expected in this investigation.
Postal Inspector in-charge Robert Wemyss said, “Anyone who tries to use the mail as a conduit for crime is making a serious mistake. We don’t hesitate to enforce the laws that protect the U.S. Postal Service.”
