PIck-up leaves road, hits tree, driver killed

Monday morning, a single-vehicle crash on LA Highway 1252 claimed the life of a Lafayette man.
At 10:00 a.m., Troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on LA 1252 near Arnaudville Road. The preliminary investigation revealed that 63-year-old Donald Griffin was operating a 1987 Ford pick-up east on LA 1252. For unknown reasons Griffin’s vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway, traveled through a ditch and struck a tree. After striking the tree the truck caught fire. The Lafayette Parish Coroner’s Office arrived on scene and pronounced Griffin dead.
Troopers are still working to determine if Griffin was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is unknown if Griffin was impaired when the crash occurred; however, routine toxicology samples were taken and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
This crash remains under investigation.
