Thieves take purse with $12,000 from car, one suspect jailed
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives recovered a large amount of stolen property on Tuesday.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Captain Megan Vizena said, “There had been a vehicle burglary report filed with our office on July 29 at approximately 5 a.m. from a victim who was staying at the Cardinal Inn off of Hwy. 190 in Opelousas.”
Vizena stated, “The victim told detectives that her purse had been stolen from her vehicle during the night. The purse contained over $12,000 in cash. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to identify three persons of interest.”
“With the assistance from Washington Police Department, Jacqueline J. Coulon of Washington was located and questioned by St. Landry Sheriff’s detectives. Coulon was cooperative during the investigation and admitted to her part in the burglary. Additional arrests will be forthcoming,” Vizena stated.
Coulon is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail facing charges of principle to simple burglary of a vehicle and felony theft with a $8,000 bond.
Vizena did not say whether Coulon knew the victim, and did not identify the other persons of interest.
