Trailer load shifts, woman dies in subsequent I-10 crash
An unbelted Ilinois woman died Wednesday when the truck she was riding in left I-10 and crashed into a tree.
The accident happened at mid-day.
Initial investigation revealed that a 2003 Ford F-350 operated by Robert Ferris, 55, was traveling eastbound on I-10 in the left lane with right front passenger Marissa Farris, 19, and rear passenger Sandra Farris, 47, all from Roxana, Ill.
The Ford was hauling a triple axel trailer carrying two large propellers. Ferris changed lanes, began to pass a vehicle, and the cargo shifted causing the trailer to sway back and forth.
Farris lost control as the Ford veered south, traveled off of the roadway, and struck a tree. Sandra Farris, his wife, was ejected and was pronounced dead on the scene by the Acadia Parish Coroner’s Office. Robert Farris and Marissa Farris were transported to American Legion Hospital for injuries sustained.
None of the occupants were restrained. Impairment is not considered to be a factor in this crash.
