Pony, 25 rides short of 100,000, will soon ride again

For 30 years, children rode Pony at a drive-in eatery in Abbeville. A ride cost a dime. In 1996, someone stole the dime box (pictured by Pony’s head), and Pony was put out to pasture.

It is probably the most famous derby pony from Abbeville despite never winning a Kentucky Derby, Belmont or even a race behind Clement’s.
The famous horse, named, “Pony” was ridden by almost every child in Abbeville between 1968 through 1996.

The petrochemical industry in Louisiana is experiencing a renaissance with the abundance of cheap natural gas, but that renewal could be in jeopardy due to lawsuits against oil and gas companies, Louisiana Oil & Gas Association President Don Briggs said Tuesday.
