Tigers fall to Ole Miss in overtime

OXFORD, Miss. – Andre Stringer drained a career-high 23 points aided by a five three-pointers off the bench, but the LSU men’s basketball team was dealt an 88-74 overtime loss to Ole Miss Wednesday at Tad Smith Coliseum.

LSU (10-5, 1-2 SEC) had an opportunity to win the game in regulation, but Anthony Hickey misfired on a 15-foot jumper as time expired. The Rebels (11-5, 2-1 SEC) scored the first 11 points of overtime en route to their sixth win during the last seven meetings over the Tigers.

For Stringer, the 23 points marked his third 20-plus scoring effort of the season. He tallied 21 points during each of LSU’s first two games of the season against UMass and Northwestern State. The Jackson, Miss. native hit his first six shots and was a crisp 7-of-10 shooting. His two assists allowed him to move past Johnny Jones for 12th place on LSU’s all-time list.

Making his second straight start, Shavon Coleman picked up 15 points and hauled in a season-high seven rebounds over his 37 minutes of action.

Jarell Martin registered 14 points, seven rebounds and two steals. It marked the second time this season that Martin has produced consecutive double figure scoring performances.

Anthony Hickey turned in a solid all-around effort with 11 points, seven assists, five rebounds and three steals after missing the final 13-plus minutes of the opening half with two fouls. The seven assists tied a career-high for Hickey whereas the three steals enabled him to surpass Tasmin Mitchell for eighth place in the LSU record book.

Jordan Mickey was limited to a season-low two points but turned in a strong defensive effort with a career-high seven blocks to go along with five rebounds.

Johnny O’Bryant III picked up six points and five rebounds before he fouled out in overtime.

Ole Miss was sparked by Marshall Henderson, Sebastian Saiz and Jarvis Summers. The trio accounted for 65 of the 88 points for the Rebels. Henderson led the way with 25 points and handed out seven assists.

LSU begins a stretch of four of its next five games at home and takes on Vanderbilt on Saturday. Tip time is on-tap for 8 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU along with www.WatchESPN.com.
