Meter covers give glimpse into past

The water meter cover on the top is the one found and generously donated by the local Lawco staff. On the bottom is a charcoal rubbing done years ago on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.

Long time-no see. Been on a cruise down memory lane and glad to be back.
To bring ya’ll up to date: when we did the article on water meter covers/lids a few months ago, we got quite a few responses. Some we’ve yet to have time to follow up but we would like to thank the local Lawco crew for finding an old one for us and generously donating it to the Eunice Depot Museum.
Beauty is said to be in the eye of the beholder, so when you look at it, it’s either got an E.H.S. Bobcat embossed on it OR an L.S.U. Tiger. Joel and I did some charcoal rubbings of a number of things “back in the old days” and we did one of these on the campus in Baton Rouge.
I have also photographed one in Charleston and one in Galveston. The most prominent ones are the Crescent City ones in New Orleans. There are t-shirts done with the logo as well as blown glass, pot holders, plaster ones and even one done in sterling silver.
Looks like I’m not the only one that needs to get a real hobby!
The Lawco one was donated to the Depot Museum and is on display there for all to see. ‘Til then, watch where you’re walking. If you see a strange one, call so we can photograph it.
Happy hunting!
