Too hot to fish, too hot for golf

With the high schools finishing their summer ball schedule and time before the football season begins, what is there to talk about?
Well to me - I am not a good golfer and an even worse fisherman - so it is too hot for me to do either.
So those of you who do those things no matter how hot or cold - have fun.
But for the month of July I am going to discuss the best sports movies that you should find their DVD and watch.
I will do a best of boxing, baseball, football, basketball, hockey and track movies.
You can email your own list to tom.dodge@eunicetoday.com as I discuss each category.
I will begin with boxing - a sport that I learned to appreciate hanging around a friend who is a promoter.
In every boxing movie there are compelling characters, thrilling soundtracks and unforgettable lines.
While many fans have their favorite Rocky movie, I suggest the entire series and watch his progression.
Each one has its high and low points - but I enjoyed the Rocky movies more than any other boxing movie.
1. Rocky I
Sylvester Stallone will always be remembered because of Rocky Balboa, a not-so-smart boxer with limited skills who rose to fame by winning the hearts of many when he overcame the odds and put on a good fight against the champion, Appollo Creed.
Rocky would go on to win an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1976 and spawn the ultimate sports movie series. Plus it has an awesome soundtrack.
I used to pop that cassette into my car stereo and blast those speakers.
I could add any of other Rocky movies to the top of this list.

2. Raging Bull
In this 1980 boxing masterpiece, Robert De Niro stars as the “Raging Bull” Jake LaMotta,
One of the most memorable clips in the movie was when LaMotta was challenged by Sugar Ray Robinson for the final fight in their legendary six-bout rivalry.

3. The Hurricane (1999)
Denzel Washington stars as Rubin “Hurricane” Carter, a top-ranked boxer in the 1960’s. Rubin was boxing his way to the top, until he was wrongly convicted for the murder of three individuals in a Paterson, NJ bar.
The sentencing shocked many, including Pulitzer Prize winner Bob Dylan who would write the song, “The Hurricane” in protest.
Years later, an inspired young man (Vicellous Reon Shannon) reads Carter’s autobiography, and helps spur a number of legal pleas in an effort to free Carter from the racial injustice that landed him in prison.

4. Cinderella Man (2005)
The inspiring story of James Braddock, “The Bulldog of Bergen.”
Braddock earned his nickname, Cinderella Man, from his seemingly fairytale-like rise from a poor local fighter to the heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

5. Undisputed (2002)
When heavyweight champion George ‘Iceman’ Chambers lands in prison, the resident gangster arranges a boxing match with the reigning prison champ.
There were rumors that this movie was in reference to Mike Tyson and that it really happened to him when he was in jail.
