Church Point death investigated

The investigation into the death of 22-year-old Bethany Walters of Lawtell is still on going.
Capt. Clay Higgins, public information officer for the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, said, “This is a death with suspicious circumstances. It’s potentially a homicide, but it could still turn out to be a suicide.”
Walters’ death was originally reported as a suicide on Jan. 24, but investigators are waiting on laboratory tests before ruling the death a homicide or suicide, Higgins said. The call regarding the incident came from a home on Prudence Highway in the Lawtell area.
Michael Guillory, 27, of Church Point, is a person of interest in the case, and his address is listed as the 1400 block of Prudence Higway. He was arrested Jan. 27 for unauthorized use of a movable. Guillory remains in jail on a $1,000 bond and a hold for probation and parole for another, unspecified incident.
Higgins said Guillory and Walters knew each other in some manner.
