St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz issued the following news release at about 6:30 p.m. Monday.
ST LANDRY PARISH SHERIFF SURPRISED BY CAPTAIN CLAY HIGGINS’ RESIGNATION
Capt. Clay Higgins
Capt. Clay Higgins announced Monday that he is resigning from the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Higgins returned from a vacation to make the anouncment on the steps of the St. Landry Parish Courthouse.
The investigation into the death of 22-year-old Bethany Walters of Lawtell is still on going.

The story about a July theft at the St. Landry Parish Animal control Office in Opelousas refuses to go away.
That it won’t go away is mostly due to Pam Gautreau, District 8 Parish Council member.
