Officers keep eyes peeled for escapee

Officers looked for leads regarding two-time escapee Theobegi Levier as local law enforcement fanned out to serve about 100 arrest warrants Wednesday in St. Landry Parish.
Levier escaped from police custody for a second time on April 13. He is wanted on charges of aggravated attempted first-degree murder, armed robbery and simple escape.
“Many warrants were stacked up that needed to be served and looking for leads on Theobegi Levier is sort of a secondary deal with the operation,” said Lt. Clay Higgins, public information officer with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. “The Eunice area is where we have received some leads on Theobegi Levier, so it’s only natural to ask about his whereabouts. l am not aware of any new leads generated by the warrant operation.”
The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information on Levier’s whereabouts to call 911, the sheriff’s office or St. Landry Crimestoppers. The St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office can be reached at 337-948-6516 or at the Eunice Substation at 337-457-7469, and the St. Landry Crimestoppers number is 337-948-TIPS (8477). There is a $3,500 reward for information leading to Levier’s arrest.
Levier is a black male with a medium to dark complexion, weighs 160 pounds and is 6 feet tall. He also has a tattoo on his face.
About 40 units and 60 officers were on the ground working to serve the warrants, which ranged from bench and active warrants to marshal’s and parole and probation warrants.
By 10:30 a.m. Wednesday officers had arrested about half a dozen individuals, and the officers were being debriefed and divided into teams before heading back out on the road. Officers were still on the street serving warrants at 2 p.m.
