Police respond to assaults; one involving a pistol, another with knife

Eunice Police defused two reported assault incidents Thursday — one involving a pistol and the other a knife.
In the incident involving a knife, Oteraius Mason, 20, 200 block of Beulah Street, Eunice, was arrested for aggravated assault.
In the incident involving the pistol, Kwan Fredrick, 37, 500 block of College Road, Eunice, was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm.
Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot said Mason met a man and woman and words were exchanged at about 3 p.m. Thursday at East Vine and East streets. Mason took his shirt off and walked up to the man, eventually producing a pocket knife, Fontenot said.
The victim said he told Mason he didn’t want to fight because he was on probation, Fontenot said.
When the victim said he was going to call police, Mason ran, Fontenot said.
Mason said he had been threatened and the woman had two rocks in her hand, Fontenot said.
In the pistol case, Fontenot said Fredrick’s neighbor complained that Fredrick’s pit bull was scaring his cats and eating their food.
Fredrick entered the neighbor’s yard carrying a pistol as they argued about about 6 p.m. Thursday, Fontenot said. Fredrick did not point the gun at the neighbor, he said.
Fredrick told police that neighbors had said they were going to kill his dog if it entered their yards, Fontenot said.
