Pursuit on I-10 leads to arrest of Lake Charles woman

Louisiana State Police Troop I troopers arrested a Lake Charles woman Thursday for numerous traffic offenses after she led Troopers on a pursuit lasting 24 minutes.
At about 2 p.m. a Louisiana State trooper on I-10 near Welsh encountered the driver of a 2014 Ford Focus who made eye contact with the trooper then sped up and began passing vehicles on the shoulder.
The driver, later identified as 28-year-old Shannon Marie Laycock of Lake Charles, refused to stop and continued to drive recklessly at a high rate of speed, police report.
Troopers deployed spike strips and the vehicle was successfully stopped on I-10 near Duson in Acadia Parish, police said.
Troopers arrested Laycock for reckless operation of a motor vehicle, aggravated flight from an officer, speeding, driving on the shoulder, two counts of aggravated battery (for striking police vehicles with the vehicle she was driving), and resisting arrest, the news release stated.
Laycock was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail. Upon release from the Acadia Parish Jail she will face additional charges in Jefferson Davis Parish.
One trooper sustained minor injuries and three Louisiana State Police vehicles sustained minor to moderate damage, police said.
Laycock was not injured.
Several other law enforcement agencies assisted with the pursuit including the Jennings Police Department, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office, Crowley Police Department and Rayne Police Department.
