East Beauregard sweeps St. Edmund

The early deficit against East Beauregard was too tall of a mountain to climb for St. Edmund as the Lady Jays fell 53-34 on Tuesday night.
The Lady Trojans opened the game with a 8-0 run before Margaret Vidrine scored the first St. Edmund points.
Vidrine would later drive the lane again to help the Lady Jays close the gap to 12-4.
A three-pointer with 30 seconds left by Samantha Bertrand excited the home crowd as the Lady Jays hung tough, trailing 15-7.
But East Beauregard went on a 9-2 run in the second period to put the game away with a 24-9 halftime lead.
Bertrand scored on an inbounds pass at the 5:13 mark for the only Lady Jay points of the period.
East Beauregard kept its dominance early in the second half with a 12-2 run, slowed by a bucket by Lady Jay Constance Fontenot.
The Lady Jays made a late surge with a 12-4 run as Bertrand hit back-to-back buckets followed by four points from Maddie Andrus and Vidrine scored off a steal.
Bertrand hit a buzzer-beater trey to help the Lady Jays close the gap to 40-24 heading into the fourth quarter.
Bertrand finished with 12 points to lead St. Edmund.
Kelli Richard scored on an inbounds pass to open the final period as St. Edmund continued to battle against the undefeated Lady Trojans.
Payton Crowell added a pair of shots and Richard drove the lane again as the Lady Jays pulled closer, 48-32 in the closing minutes.
Andrus scored the final points of the contest on a put-back bucket to finish with seven points.
Carlee Herrington scored 29 points to lead East Beauregard.
After a road trip to Lake Arthur on Thursday, the Lady Jays will entertain Iota next Friday.

SEH boys 61, SEH 37
St. Edmund hung tough early as the Blue Jays battled to a 17-17 halftime tie with East Beauregard.
But the Trojans rallied for a 44-20 second half to seal a 61-37 win Tuesday night.
“The first half was how I wanted us to play,” St. Edmund (3-6) first-year head coach Hunter Dawkins said. “I wanted it to be a tight game, but we lost the intensity in the second half.”
East Beauregard (3-2) opened the game with a trio of treys to grab a 11-7 first quarter lead.
Buckets from Drew Brown and Cullen Brown along with a three-pointer by Christian McFarlain accounted for all the Blue Jay points in the period.
St. Edmund went on a 10-6 run in the second period to force a tie at intermission.
McFarlain scored in the lane and Kyle Dupre later added two free throws to close the gap to 15-11.
Cullen Brown’s steal combined with a lay-up by McFarlain pulled the Jays closer before Stone LeJeune scored on another steal.
LeJeune hit two free throws with three seconds left to tie the game, 17-17.
Cole Guidry and McFarlain exchanged treys to begin the third period, but East Beauregard then went on a 16-2 run to pull away from the Blue Jays.
Alex Hunt scored on a put-back midway through the period for the Jays.
East Beauregard continued its control of the game with a 25-12 explosion to end the contest.
The Trojans opened the period with a 18-5 surge, capped by back-to-back treys from Dave Green and Jake Langley.
A three-pointer from McFarlain and an inside bucket by Dylan Bieber were the only Blue Jay points in that run.
William Chachere hit two buckets and Zach LaFleur drilled two three-pointers for the Blue Jays in the game’s final two minutes.
McFarlain led the Jays with 13 points for the only St. Edmund player to score in double points.
Guidry led the Trojans with 16 points.
After a road trip to Lake Arthur on Thursday, the Blue Jays travel to Ascension Episcopal next Friday.
“I have to challenge to the kids to play better,” Dawkins said. “We didn’t do what we were supposed to do to win the game.”
