Bearcats, Bears cruise; Bulldogs fall

 

CREOLE – The fourth- ranked Basile  Bearcats remained perfect on the season with a 58-19 win over South Cameron.

Basile (6-0, 3-0 in District 4-1A) scored twice in every quarter and rolled up 310 yards of total offense over the Tarpons (2-4, 1-2).

Bearcat running back  Kendrick Ceaser scored on a 7-yard run before South Cameron’s Jose Castillo nailed a 24-yard field goal.

Ceaser sped 96 yards on  a kickoff return and Mark Ivory connected with Corbert Dupont for the two-point conversion to give the Bearcats a 14-3 advantage.

Ivory scored on a 1-yard run in the second period and Ceaser added the two-point conversion for a 22-3 lead.

South Cameron answered when Andrew Bonsall found Jakin Morales open for a 78-yard scoring pass. Castillo’s PAT closed the gap to 22-10.

The Bearcats responded with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Ivory to Mason Deshotel. Mark Ledoux’s PAT gave Basile 29-10 lead at the break.

Castillo hit a 35-yard field goal in the third period before Ivory and Ceaser connected for a 53-yard scoring play.

Ceaser tossed the ball to  Deshotel for the two-point conversion and  a 37-13 lead.

Ceaser (12 for 186 yards) later added a 35-yard touchdown run and Ledoux’s PAT gave the Bearcats a 44-13 heading into the fourth quarter,

Blaise Hebert returned a fumble 17 yards and Ledoux’s kick increased the Bearcats’ lead to 51-13.

South Cameron’s Jared Theriot scored on a 6-yard run to close the gap to 51-19.

Ceaser then scored on a 75-yard kick return and Ledoux’s PAT made the final, 58-19.

Basile entertains Grand Lake (1-5, 0-3) this week.

 

Church Point 34, Pine Prairie 6

 

PINE PRAIRIE – The Church Point Bears cruised to a 34-6 win over Pine Prairie Friday night in the District 5-3A opener for both teams.

The Bears entertain Northwest this Thursday night as district action continues.

Church Point’s first touchdown came on a 3-yard run by Deion Monroe at the 8:40 mark and Kian Richard’s kick gave the Bears a 7-0 lead.

Monroe scored again on a 24-yard run and Monroe’s PAT pushed the Bears ahead, 14-0 with 7:43 left in the first period.

Monroe added his third touchdown of the game on a 21-yard run with 10:43  remaining in the second quarter as the Bears grabbed a 20-0 advantage.

Trevor Breaux scored on a 1-yard run and Monroe added the extra point as the Bears forged ahead, 27-0 with 7:29 remaining in the half.

Breaux scored again on an 8-yard run with 3:33 left in the second period as Richard’s PAT gave the Bears a 34-0 lead at the break.

Pine Prairie avoided the shutout when Dylan Doucet scored on a 30-yard pass from Cade Vidrine with 2:23 left in the third period.

Monroe finished with 50 yards on six carries with three touchdowns.

Breaux had 48 yards on six carries with two scores.

Casey Benoit completed 2-of-6 passes for 32 yards, while Troy Matte completed 2-of-6 passes for 21 yards.

Pine Prairie’s VonTrevis Thomas finished with 56 yards on eight carries, while Douglas Fontenot with 48 yards on nine carries.

Vidrine completed 1-of-2 passes for 30 yards and a score.

 

Iowa 34, Iota 20 

IOTA – The game was close at halftime as Iowa held on to a 14-6 advantage over the home standing Bulldogs.

After a scoreless third period, the two offenses exploded as undefeated Iowa (6-0, 1-0) grabbed a 34-20 victory over winless Iota (0-6, 0-1) in the District 4-3A opener.

“We played very well tonight,” said Bulldogs coach Neal Legé. “We ran the ball well. We blocked well. We just gave up a couple of big plays.

“I’m really proud of my guys. They played their hearts out and just came up short in the end.”

On their first possession, Iowa’s Chaz Key’s 10-yard touchdown run with 8:06 remaining in the quarter capped off a nine-play, 59-yard drive. Jevon Perry’s PAT gave the Jackets a 7-0 lead.

Iowa moved ahead 14-0 with 10:15 remaining in the second quarter after Key scored on a 31-yard touchdown run and Perry kicked the PAT. 

Iota answered with a 12-play, 65 yard drive capped off by Adam Ardoin from 9 yards out. 

The Bulldogs’ extra point attempt was blocked.

In the fourth quarter, Janice’s 48-yard punt return with 9:56 remaining in the quarter set up Key’s 5-yard touchdown two plays later for a 21-6 advantage.

Iota responded when Tim Lunson ran for an 18- yard touchdown with 8:14 remaining. 

Lumson scored again on a 2-yard run. Ardoin added the two-point conversion to close the gap to 21-20.

Iowa recovered the onside kick  the Yellow  Jackets 43-yard line. 

Three plays later, Key picked up his fourth touchdown on a 55-yards run to push ahead 27-20 with 1:47 left.

With time running out, Lunson was picked off by  Darius Janice who raced 45 yards to the endzone with 1:01 left. Perry’s PAT made the final margin, 34-20.

Key finished with 165 yards on 21 carries and four touchdowns.

Ardoin had 27 carries for 145 yards and score, while Sloane added 65 yards on 13 carries.

Iota nows travels to Westlake (2-4, 0-1) who fell 20-18 to South Beauregard.
