Jays hold on for win

NEW ROADS – It was a win the Blue Jays badly needed as St. Edmund held off False River Academy for an 8-5 win.
SEH (12-13, 4-4) closes District 5-1A play tonight against Westminster Christian Academy (15-9, 5-1).
As the regular season conludes Friday against Eunice High, the Blue Jays are No. 19 in the LHSAA Class 1-A power rankings, with the top 16 teams earning home games to open the playoffs.
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (13-9. 5-2) is the eighth-ranked team, followed by No. 9 WCA.
Against FRA (2-20, 0-7,) St. Edmund jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning begun when Cole Bergeron bunted and later scored a hit by Jacob Duplechin.
Brock Bieber singled and scored when Austin Gradney reached on an error.
The Blue Jays increased its lead to 4-0 with two more run in the third frame, begun as William Chachere reached on an error Jack Brown singled and both scored on Bergeron’s hit.
St. Edmund added a run in the fourth inning as Gradney singled and later scored on a passed ball.
The Jays pushed ahead 6-0 with a run in the fifth when Drake Brunet singled, stole both second and third before scoring on a dropped third strike when Brown was up to bat.
St. Edmund increased its lead to 8-0 with two more runs in the top of the sixth, begun as Gradney walked and pinch runner Brad Miller scored on Brunet’s hit to centerfield.
Jack Miller singled and scored on a hit by Brunet.
The Gators then exploded for five runs with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning,
Kody Munson, Christian Reed and Gared Beauvais all walked and scored.
Gage Fuller reached on an error and scored on a hit by Matt Leleux, who then crossed home plate on a hit by Clay Jarreau.
Brunet moved to the mound to strike out John Bizette to hit the rally.
Blue Jay starter Gibson LaFleur pitched 5.2 innings as he struck out seven, walked five and allowed two runs on two hits.
Chachere then walked one and allowed three runs on four hits before Brunet sealed the win.
Bergeron went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Brunet went 2-for-4 with a RBI and run scored to lead the Jays.
