Local prep football schedules released

While the first day of fall high school football practice is still a month away, discussing the upcoming schedule means the season is nearing for Bobcat and Blue Jay fans.
Eunice High finished the 2013 season with a 6-5 overall and 4-2 District 4-4A record. The Bobcats fell 23-7 to Westgate in the opening round of the playoffs.
St. Edmund finished the 2013 season with a 8-4 overall record and 4-1 in District 5-1A.
In the first year of the divided playoffs, the Blue Jays earned a first-round bye and then earned a 48-34 win over Ascension Catholic.
St. Edmund then fell 28-7 at Cedar Creek in the Select Division IV semifinals.
In the second year of game contracts, the teams on the schedule are familar to the Bobcats and Blue Jays.
Both the Bobcats and Blue Jays will again participate in the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree on Aug. 29 at the St. Edmund athletic complex.
Eunice will face the Deridder Dragons followed by St. Edmund Blue Jays taking on the Port Barre Red Devils.
The Blue Jays open the 2014 season Sept. 5 with three straight home games against Rayne (8-3), Iota (0-10) and Basile (11-1).
St. Edmund then visits former district foe Opelousas Catholic (8-4) on Sept. 26 and Westminster Christian Academy (3-8) on Oct. 3.
The Blue Jays will open district at Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (6-6).
St. Edmund continues district play at home against North Central (1-10) on Oct. 17, before having a week off after the closure of Pointe Coupee Central.
The Blue Jays will entertain False River Academy (1-10) before closing the regular season at rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (6-5).
Eunice will again split their roster to play in two separate jamborees.
Eunice will participate in the Joe Nagata Memorial Jamboree before competing the St. Landry Parish jamboree.
The Bobcats begin the season on Sept. 5 at former district rival Northwest (6-6) before entertaining Jennings (11-3).
Eunice then travels to St. Martinville (5-6) before opening District 4-4A action at Opelousas High (0-10).
The Bobcats host Washington-Marion (8-3) on Oct. 3 before visiting LaGrange (6-6) on Oct. 10.
Rayne (8-3) visits Eunice on Oct. 16 and the Bobcats will take on Vermilion Catholic (14-0) for homecoming on Oct. 24.
The Bobcats travel to Crowley (8-4) on Oct. 31 before closing the regular season at home against Beau Chene (2-8) on Nov. 7.
The state championship games will be held Dec. 11-13 in New Orleans.
