Mighty Lions down Bobcats

The Eunice High Bobcats fell to the Lafayette High Mighty Lions by a 14-4 margin in baseball action Monday night at Bobcat Field.
The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was moved to Monday due to threatening weather on Tuesday.
The Lions jumped to the early lead with three runs in the first inning, aided by two errors. Doubles by Tyler Miller and Hudson LaBorde highlighted the Lions offense against Eunice starting pitcher Austin Manuel. The Lions scored a single run in the top of the second for a 4-0 lead.
The Bobcats cut the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the second inning. Christian Lejeune drew a walk and Logan Manuel hit a home run to cut the lead in half. But the Lions responded with a four-run third inning, chasing Manuel from the mound. Daniel Stahl came on in relief to retire the side, but the Lions held an 8-2 lead.
The Cats scored a run in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 8-3. Wes Hebert drew a walk and scored on a double by Christian Taylor. Lejeune followed with a single, but Lafayette High pitcher Jeffery Liner retired the side to end the threat.
The Lions added to their lead with single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. The Cats added a fourth run in the bottom of the fifth. Cade Richard singled, advanced to second on a single by Hebert, and scored on a single by Lejeune.
The Lions would score four runs in the top of the sixth to go up 14-4 and the game ended when the Cats were unable to score a run in the bottom of the sixth.
In addition to Manuel and Stahl, the Bobcats used three other pitchers, with Jayden Brasseaux, Tyler Darbonne, and Ian George all seeing action on the mound.

Trey Altick Classic
MONROE – The Eunice High Bobcats concluded their trip here to the Trey Altick Louisiana Prep Classic with a 3-1 record after posting wins over the St. Charles Comets and the University High Cubs in baseball action over the past weekend.
On Friday, Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat the Comets by a 4-3 margin. Eunice High catcher Gunner Fontenot scored the winning run when an errant throw on his grounder went wide of the first baseman and out of play as Fontenot raced around the bases to reach home plate.
The Bobcats got a solid pitching outing from senior Caleb Taylor against the Comets. Taylor earned the victory with seven inning of work. He scattered four hits, gave up only one earned run and one walk. He struck out four batters.
The Cats took 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cade Richard doubled, and Wes Hebert and Christian Taylor drew walks to load the bases. Comets’ pitcher Evan Pfister threw a wild pitch, allowing Richard to score before retiring the side. The Comets would add two more runs in the fifth inning to take a 3-1 lead. Another Eunice error set up the inning and Brady Newman’s single scored two runners for the lead.
The Bobcat offense responded in the bottom of the fifth inning. Fontenot was hit by a pitch, Richard singled, and Hebert tripled home both baserunners to tie the game at 3-3 before Pfister retired the side. Taylor shutout the Comets over the final two innings to set up the Cats in the bottom of the seventh.
Against University High, the Bobcats took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second innings. In the first, Richard singled and went to third on a single by Hebert. Christian Taylor drove in Richard with a ground out for a 1-0 lead. In the second, Austin Manuel doubled and scored on Logan Manuel’s single.
The Cubs responded in the third, scoring three runs against Eunice starter Christian Lejeune. Lejeune bounced back, though, to limit the Cubs to two unearned runs over the next three innings. The Cats supported Lejeune with three runs in the bottom of the third on hits by Richard, Christian Taylor, and Christian Lejeune. Logan Manuel drove in the third run with a sacrifice fly. The Cats added single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to go ahead 7-4.
With Lejeune’s pitch count mounting, Christian Taylor replaced him on the mound to start the seventh inning. After striking out the first batter, Taylor walked Seth Daugherty, gave up a single and a double to score one run. Two more runs scored on a single by Fox Vidrine before Taylor struck out the next batter to end the inning with the game tied at 7.
With one out, in the bottom of the seventh, Austin Manuel singled and Austin Phillips came on as a pinch runner. Zac Guillory singled and reached second base on an error, advancing Phillips to third base. The Cubs opted to intentionally walk Logan Manuel to load the bases. With two out, Gunner Fontenot hit a slow roller down the third base line and Phillips dashed home with the winning run before the third baseman could make a play.
