Lake Arthur cruises past St. Edmund

LAKE ARTHUR – The Lake Arthur Lady Tigers jumped out to a 14-2 first quarter lead and rolled to a 44-17 win over the St. Edmund Lady Jays on Tuesday.
Free throws from Ashley Newsom and Brianna Ramirez were the only points scored for the Lady Jays in the first quarter.
The Lady Tigers continued their domination with a 13-2 run in the second period for a 27-4 advantage at the break.
Newsom’s bucket was the only Lady Jay points in the period, while Elizabeth Guidry pushed in 11 of her game-high 22 points for Lake Arthur.
The Lady Tigers outscored St. Edmund 12-5 in the third frame as a trey by Ramirez and a bucket from Alana Guillory were the five Lady Jay points.
Guidry scored nine points for the Lady Tigers in the quarter.
St. Edmund (1-3) outscored the Lady Tigers 8-5 in the fourth quarter.
Newsom, Catherine Bowie and Maggie Miller all scored for the Lady Jays in the frame, while Ramirez added two free throws.
Miller and Newsom both scored five points as the top Lady Jay scorers.
After participating in the Iowa tournament this weekend, the Lady Jays will entertain Loreauville on Thursday.
Lake Arthur 54, St. Edmund 41
The Lake Arthur Tigers opened with a 9-3 first quarter run and grabbed a 54-41 win over the St, Edmund Blue Jays on Tuesday.
The Tigers mounted a 17-10 second period run to grab a 26-13 advantage at intermission.
Lake Arthur outscored the feisty Jays 13-12 in the third period before St. Edmund closed the game with a 16-11 run.
Tyler Vidrine led the Blue Jays with 17 points, while Brent Swann added 12 points.
