Johnwell, Fontenot family reunion held in Eunice

A Nov. 7 family reunion was held in Eunice celebrating the legacy of Sam and Eva (Johnwell) Fontenot, lifelong residents of Eunice.
Hundreds of descendants of the late couple gathered at the Northwest Community Center for several hours and paid tributes and shared memories, triumphs and history in many forms: verbal praises and recollections, singing and a candle-lighting ceremony for their deceased.
The original family of 16 children has only two surviving members, but the atmosphere was happiness and joy featuring a theme based on Philippians 3:12-14, From History to Destiny.
All who attended enjoyed photos, music, chats, reflections, a slide show presentation, awards, door prizes, a silent auction and a main course meal of Creole gumbo.
The Fontenots thanked the city of Eunice for declaring a welcome and proclamation honoring the family and all of the businesses, organizations and individuals that donated items for door prizes and gift bags.
The reunion, with the previous one being held 10 years ago, was successfully xecuted by the planning committee of Linda Rushing, Grenda Williams, Eranda Bassie, Tanya Boutte, Anita DeJean, Danell Lawyer, Febia Monroe, Opel Oliver and Priscilla Soileau.
