New Opia Home School Art Club formed
The Opia Home School Art Club was created in September of this year. It’s a way for home schooled students to join in a club activity, participate in teamwork and leadership, and learn about art in all its forms.
The club met officially for the first time on Oct. 10, with three members in attendance. Club members experimented with advanced finger painting. The second meeting happened on Nov. 14, with six members in attendance. They drew neighbor’s portrait without looking at their papers. Members also created Dada-esque doodles to show support for the people of Paris, France and Japan during their times of trouble.
Their most recent meeting was on Dec. 12. There were five members present who participated in an art-to-music project. While listening to instrumental music, the artists translate that music to paper using their chosen medium.
The club meets on the second Saturday of each month to learn more about the different forms of art and to give home schooled students a place to connect with other home schooled students. The age range is from 12 to 19.
