On Dec. 17, Principal April Briscoe of Richard Elementary presented Mary Laurent from SLEMCO (Southwest Louisiana Electric Membership Corporation) with a check in the amount of $1,609.35 to pay for The Welcome House Shelter’s electricity bill for one month.
The Welcome House Shelter, located off of La. 13 South, is home to many homeless adults and children. Richard Elementary gave back to their community this holiday season.
The students, faculty, and parents participated in a fundraiser, “Help Keep the Lights on this Christmas”. The fundraiser was a success.
“Never before had a school in Acadia Parish raised enough money to pay for The Welcome House Shelter’s electricity bill. Not only did Richard Elementary raise enough money to pay the electricity bill for one month, but the generosity of the Richard Community raised an extra $350 to purchase laundry detergent and cleaning supplies for the shelter. The students, faculty, and parents of Richard Elementary school demonstrated to all that the true spirit of Christmas is truly the gift of giving,” said Principal April Briscoe.
