Savoy and Good & Young Bands part of Louisiana Crossroads

Good & Young and Savoy Family Bands

This week, in the Louisiana Crossroads series, there will be a musical meeting of two local families with their out-of-state family members.
The show is a musical merger of two different styles of traditional music played by two different families: one representing the music of the flat prairies of Louisiana and the other representing music of Appalachia.
“The Good and Young Band” are Linzay and Emma Young, from Eunice (Linzay is son of Wendall and Margaret Young of Eunice), and Emma’s parents, hailing from Ohio, Rick Good and Sharon Leahy. This family has traveled the world over doing dance performance with their own dance troupe, Rhythm and Shoes, and their style of music is Appalachian old time song and dance tunes.
“The Savoy Family Band” are Marc, Ann, Joel, Kelli, and Wilson Savoy of Eunice. They will be playing some Cajun hits as well as a swing tune or two, Ray Charles numbers, old time, and country. The younger generation will do some songs in their various grouping also: Kelli and Emma, Wilson and Joel, Joel and Linzay, and “Double date” (Joel, Keli, Linzay, and Emma).
In the show, which was in Lake Charles on Wednesday evening and will be in Lafayette at the Acadiana Center for the Arts tonight and Friday night, both families will present a little bit of every style of music that they do. Between this varied music program there will be some great dancing-clogging, tap, shim-sham-done to music by both families together.
“It is a rare treat to see so much Eunice talent displayed at two prestigious Acadiana venues,” said Ann Savoy.
Louisiana Crossroads began in 2002, in Bossier City when founding member John Kavanaugh decided to follow his dream of bringing together talented musicians of differing backgrounds to form a powerful, cohesive show band. Tailor made for the local casino market as well as many festivals and major events of the area, Crossroads regularly plays to crowds throughout the Ark-La-Tex region.
