All faiths in Eunice came together under one roof to worship during the second annual Community Worship Service Wednesday evening at Eunice High School.
The theme of the service was, “Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord.”
The Rev. Allen Ben of New Zion Baptist Church extended a welcome to the large crowd in attendance.
Opening prayer was given by Monsignor Robert Romero of St. Anthony Catholic Church.
The Rev. Jermaine Tezeno of Greater True Light Baptist Church read from scripture, “Colossians 1: 27-29.”
Faith Christian Worship Center’s worship team led the congregation with worship music, which included, “He’s Alive,” “The Anthem,” and “Nothing But The Blood.”
The attendees had the privilege of giving to the Eunice Food Bank, as a collection was taken for those in need in the community.
LaSaundra Fontenot, a member of New Zion Baptist Church in Eunice, led her church choir members with, “Sweet Little Baby Jesus.” Her pastor is the Rev. Allen Ben.
The Rev. Tim Moffett of First Baptist Church read scriptures from “1 Peter 2:6-10.”
Pastor of the Golden Star Baptist Church in Eunice, the Rev. Matthew Alfred, gave the evening’s message. Alfred spoke encouraging words and gave scriptures pertaining to the theme, “Called to Proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord.”
Alfred said, “We have been chosen by God, and to yield to His command, and His excellency is for us.”
Alfred encouraged the congregation to feel privileged, “It is a privilege to proclaim the Mighty Acts of the Lord.
“We are a chosen generation, a Holy nation, a Royal priesthood.”
Alfred challenged the congregation to become leaders of our community and to serve. He said, “God looks beyond our commisssion. We should go forth to proclaim the praises of Him. God loved you enough to choose you, and to become part of His family.”
Alfred encouraged all people, all faiths, all races to come together for the good of the community and nation. He added, “We are a chosen people, not a choice people.”
“We are a choice generation to be picked out to be the very best.”
Differences of opinion, differences of faith, should be put aside for the betterment of each other, as Alfred added, “Even though we have differences, we know that we are chosen by God.”
Alfred said, “We are hand-picked directly by God. He looks beyond our hearts.”
Alfred said that God is color blind, and as the congregation giggled, he explained, “God is color blind. He only sees one color and that is red, the blood of Jesus ... His Son who died for us, to give us life and salvation.”
Race has no boundaries and serving together in one accord, is what Alfred encouraged. “We should look beyond the person, the skin color does not matter. Race has no boundaries, the heart has been transformed, the mind has been renewed. Therefore, we are all sons and daughters of the Most High God.”
Alfred also added, “Your life should speak for itself. It’s by God’s mercy that we have salvation.
“God’s grace gives us what we don’t deserve, but God’s mercy gives us what we do deserve.”
Prayers were led by local ministers and given and extended for the community, local churches, governments and schools.
Participating churches for the annual worship service included; Emmanuel Baptist Church, Faith Christian Worship Center, First Baptist Church, First United Methodist Church, Golden Star Baptist Church, Greater True Light Baptist Church, New Hope Fellowship Church, New Zion Baptist Church, North Eunice Baptist Church, Our Savior’s Church, St. Anthony Catholic Church, St. Luke Baptist, St. Mathilda Catholic Church, St. Thomas More Catholic Church, United Pentecostal Church, and Unity Family Worship Center.
