Of St. Landry’s Parish’s 59,487 registered voters, 3,403 people cast their ballots during early voting, according to St. Landry Parish Registrar of Voters Cheryl Milburn.
“Voter turnout went well, but the numbers were not as good as I thought they would be,” Milburn said. “If there had been more races, there would have been more voters. Several candidates in the parish ran unopposed. I was looking to get more like 4,000 or 5,000 early voters or about 11 percent of the parish’s voters, but it was more like 9 or 10 percent without the mail in ballots.”
Of those 3,403 voters, 2,941 voted in person, and 462 voters mailed in their ballots. The following are the number of voters by day: Oct. 10, 528; Oct. 12, 361; Oct. 13, 389; Oct. 14, 387; Oct. 15, 353; Oct. 16, 455; and Oct. 17, 468.
Milburn said she expects a greater crowd for Saturday’s election.
“I can usually tell by the early election turnout what the turnout for the main election will be like,” she said. “By my calculations, I expect about 40 to 47 percent of the parish’s voters.”
There are 4,251 registered voters in St. Landry Parish Council District 12, 4,048 voters in
