State wants Glynis Fournerat held without bail

The state is asking that Glynis Fournerat be held without bail pending her trial, or that her bail be increased.

She is accused of attempting to hire a man to kill her estranged husband and his girlfriend for $8,000 each, paying $500 down to secure the services of an undercover deputy.

Atty. Gen. Matthew Derbes claims that past and current charges against Fournerat “indicate she poses imminent danger to Logan Fournerat and Laurey Beth Johnson, warranting that she be held without bail.

Judge Alonzo Harris has set a March 18 hearing on the motion. Harris has previously set the suspect’s bond at $100,000. She has been in jail since her late October arrest.

Prior to that, the court record shows, she allegedly violated terms of protective orders issued against her and is charged with criminal trespass, aggravated burglary and domestic abuse battery in incidents related to the alleged targets of her alleged murder-for-hire scheme.

The Louisiana Attorney General’s Office has taken over the case in the wake of District Attorney Earl Taylor’s recusal of his office from prosecuting the matter.

An assistant DA is “of counsel” to the firm which has Fournerat as a client. Taylor’s office moved for the recusal to avoid any hint of conflict or impropriety, documents indicate.

“Of counsel” is a term used for attorneys to whom people are sometimes referred, often for specialized legal work.

After recusal was granted, Taylor assigned the matter to Atty. Gen. Buddy Caldwell for appointment of a District Attorney Ad Hoc.

Caldwell in late January opted to take the appointment and assigned Derbes as lead prosecutor.
