Alleged rustlers held on felony cattle theft, trespass charges

More than a dozen head allegedly stolen

Two alleged 21st Century rustlers have been charged by St. Landry Parish detectives with two counts of felony cattle theft and two counts of trespassing each.
Jeramie Anthony Brown, 37, of Hwy. 758, Eunice, and Dustin Guillory, 23, of Hickory Street, Mamou were arrested after a probe based on field work by the Louisiana State Brand Commission.
The arrest of Brown came after an investigation that began on Feb. 2, when the theft of 13 Heifers and an Angus bull was reported to the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Detectives began investigating Brown based on evidence of his involvement. Brown had been a trusted employee of the cattle-family owners, where prize Heifers flourished on a ranch featured recently in Farm and Ranch Magazine.
After thorough investigation, it was determined that Brown and Guillory had allegedly snuck onto the property on two occasions, loaded cattle into a trailer, transported the stolen livestock to an auction, and sold them.
Some of the stolen cattle have been recovered, in one case as far away as Carthage Texas, however the investigation is ongoing. Louisiana State Brand Commission Inspectors and S.L.S.O. detectives expect to eventually locate and recover the rest of the stolen livestock, the exact number of which is undisclosed.
Brown and Guillory are currently being held in the S.L.S.O. jail, each on a $12,000 bond, pending trial.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated… “The theft of prize livestock like this is a crime that carries a heavy sentence. These two young men are facing up to 20 years at hard labor.
