Alleged shooter at Lawtell disturbance booked
St. Landry Parish Patrol Deputies have arrested a man for firing 8 rounds into the air during a gathering at Frank’s Ranch on Hwy. 190 in Lawtell.
Deputies responded to reports of a disturbance in progress, involving gunfire, at 7:29 PM on October 18. Upon arrival deputies controlled the crowded scene and located several witnesses who were able to identify Oran “Tre” Washington, III as the alleged shooter. Parked nearby, deputies located Washington’s 1996 Buick LeSabre.
In plain view on the seat, they said, lay two magazines, loaded with bullets. After thorough investigation, S.L.S.O. deputies located a Smith and Wesson 40 cal. handgun. The weapon was found inside “Tre” Washington’s vehicle after legal consent to search was documented.
As the crime scene was processed, eight 40 cal. bullet casings were located and collected as evidence. The bullets matched the rounds loaded inside the weapon’s spare magazines, officers said.
Washington was arrested and charged with LA R.S. 14:94 Illegal Use of a Firearm.
Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated that “The illegal use of a firearm endangers everyone in the vicinity as well as innocent citizens as far away as a mile or more, not to mention the obvious threat presented to my responding deputies. As Sheriff, I will not tolerate gunplay of this nature. This type of crime will be aggressively investigated and arrests will be made.”
