Arrests in Eunice rose in ‘15

Eunice police arrests totaled 941 in 2015, up 5.5 percent from 2014, according to a report released by Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot. 
Juvenile arrests rose by 146 percent in 2015 when there were 86 arrests compared to 35 juvenile arrests in 2014. 
There were 248 felony arrests in 2015, down from 323 in 2014, which is a 23 percent decrease for 2014.
In 2015, there were 251 misdemeanor arrests compared to 246 in 2014. 
There were 31 DWI arrests in 2015, down from 45 in 2014. 
Arrests for other departments rose from 244 in 2014 to 325 in 2015. 
The report shows the police department received 10,945 complaints in 2015, down by 4.2 percent from the 2014. The department averaged 912 complaints a month in 2015 compared to 952 in 2014. 
There were 447 crash reports in 2015, up 2.6 percent from 2014. Eunice Police averaged responding to 37 crashes per month in 2015, up from 30 in 2014. 
There were no fatal crashes in Eunice in 2015 worked by Eunice Police. There was one fatal crash in 2014. 
In a breakdown of felony arrests, there 249 individuals arrested in 2015 and they faced a total of  592 charges.  In 2014, 246 people arrested with a total of 791 charges.  Of those felony arrests, 248 were in St. Landry Parish and one was in Acadia Parish in 2015. In 2014, there five people arrested in Acadia Pairsh with a total of 21 charges. 
In St. Landry Parish, Eunice felony arrests in 2015 were:
— Drug releated charges, 177; down from 281 in 2014. 
— DUI and other traffic related, 20; down from 71 in 2014.
— Theft and burglary, 162; down from 183 in 2014
— Sexually related, eight; up from two in 2014. 
— Attempted manslaughter/murder charges, 16; down from 18 in 2014. 
— Manslaughter/murder, one; up from zero in 2014. 
In Acadia Parish, Eunice Police felony arrests in 2015 were:
Drug related, zero; down from 10 in 2014. 
Attempted burglary and burglary, one; compared to one in 2014. 
Criminal trespass, one in 2015 and 2014. 
Attempted murder, one. 
Kidnapping, one. 
Traffic report
From 2008 to 2015, Eunice averaged 30.4 traffic crashes per month and 2015, with 337 crashes, was the highest count for the period. 
In 2015, Eunice Police reported 103 crashes with injuries; three crashes involved alcohol; 117 injured; three injuries with alcohol; 259 with property damage only; and 16 with property damage only with alcohol involved. 
In 2014, Eunice police reported 354 crashes; one fatal; one fatal crash with alcohol involved; 106 crashes with injuries; 10 crashes with injuries with alcohol involved; one fatal crash with alcohol involved; 196 injuries from crashes; 21 injuries in crashes with alcohol involved; 237 crashes with only property damage; and eight crashes with property damage and alcohol involved. 
Since 2008, there have been six crashes with fatalities and eight people killed. There was one person killed in 2014; two killed in 2013; one killed in 2012; two killed in 2011; and two killed in 2009.
