William ‘Mr. Bill” Thompson is announcing his candidacy for mayor of Eunice in the March 5 election.
His announcement includes the following.
“I was born in Yakima, Washington, lived in Japan, California, Virginia and Louisiana. I graduated from Salinas Union High School, Salinas, California, after which time I joined the Air Force. While in service, I completed a radar technician course, which I worked in for the rest of my tour of duty.
“I’m married to the former Velva Matte and had three children, one being deceased. I have two grandchildren, Cade and Gavin.
I worked for the Roanoke, Virginia, postal service and also finished out my time of the 35 years here at the Eunice Post Office.
“In the course of my employment with the postal service, I was awarded several superior achievement awards. I also received ‘suggestion awards’ that were implemented into service at the Roanoke postal service.
“I also completed a course for postmaster position. I was nominated for ‘Carrier of the Year’ many times at the Eunice Post Office.
“I was awarded a certificate of appreciation for helping to clean up our city in 2009. I was honored and humbled to received the ‘Citizen of the Year’ award in the year 2010.
“I started my employment with the city of Eunice in 2004 as a supervisor of community service workers. I worked until 2010 as of which time I was promoted to code enforcer for the city. I worked five years in that position.”
