Church Point woman dies from ATV crash injuries

Shortly before 6:30 p.m., Louisiana State Police Troop I responded to a report of an ATV crash on La. 370 near St. Clair Road in Acadia Parish on April 12, a news release from State Police Troop I stated.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2008 Kawasaki ATV driven by 19-year-old Casey Lavergne of Church Point was traveling west on La. 370 when for reasons still under investigation, the ATV exited the left side of the roadway. Lavergne attempted to gain control of the four-wheeler, but struck a small street sign, knocking him off of the four-wheeler. The four-wheeler continued on, struck a ditch embankment and overturned, ejecting the passenger 20-year-old Taylor Chapman of Church Point, police said.
Both Lavergne and Chapman were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash and were transported to Lafayette General Medical Center, police said. On April 13, 2 Troop I was notified Chapman had succumbed to her injuries and died as a result of the crash. Impairment is not suspected to be a factor in this crash. This crash remains under investigation.
