Among those present at the Saturday Summit meeting at the Rice Palace in Crowley were, seated from left, Danny Wilson, former head of the State Democratic Party Buddy Leach, B.I. Moody III and Mary Werner, candidate for the Public Service Commission; standing, Stephen Edwards, Acadia Parish Tax Assessor Jimbo Petitjean, Milo Nickel, former Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Crowley Summit meeting at Rice Palace
Mary Werner, candidate for the Public Service Commission in District 4 in the upcoming election, visited the Crowley Summit Group at the Rice Palace on July 30. She discussed the duties and responsibilities of the Public Service Commission. She also reported that she wants to focus on education and economics improvements; particularly in the rural areas of the large district.
After her presentation, she opened the meeting up for questions and answers by those present. Following a lively question and answer session the Summit Group was impressed with her detailed knowledge and workings of the Commission. They gave her a standing ovation and wished her well in her quest.
There are four candidates in the District 4 PSC race: three republicans and one democrat. The republicans are Mike Francis, Reldon Owens and Patrick Richmond. Werner is the only democrat.
Early voting will be Oct. 25. to Nov. 1. Election Day will be on Nov. 8. Run-off (if needed) will be Dec. 10.
Clyde Holloway, long time and highly respected member of the Commission declined to run for reelection.
The Commission District geographical area includes the following parishes, Acadia, Allen, Avoyelles, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, Catahoula*, Evangeline, Grant, Iberia*, Jefferson Davis, LaSalle, Rapides, Sabine*, St. Landry, Vermilion, Vernon. *Some parishes are divided according to precincts.
