Early voting rose for Saturday's election

Early voting in St. Landry Parish for Saturday’s election increased 6 percent over the early voting for the Oct. 24 primary election.
There were 3,824 votes at the end of early voting Saturday compared to 3,603 votes in the October election even though voters had one less day to vote because of the Veterans Day holiday.
The early voting numbers are from the Louisiana Secretary of State’s Office’s online site.
The increase in St. Landry Parish comes even though this Saturday’s ballot is much shorter than the October ballot.
Cheryl Milburn, St. Landry Parish registrator of voters, said the runoff in the District 40 state representative race helped push the early voting.

There are 59,514 voters registered for this Saturday’s vote.
The District 40 race pits Democrats Donovan Hudson and Dustin Miller in the runoff from a field of eight candidates. The district includes most of St. Landry Parish, but Eunice area voters do not vote in the district.
