The Pearl Harbor assassins signed — on the dotted line — in Tokyo Bay on the battleship Missouri’s deck a formal and unconditional surrender to the United States, Great Britain, China and Russia.
Marine Corps air officer Major Henry Sabatier of this city has been awarded the Bronze Star for action on Okinawa.
Pfc. Joseph Y. Nagata, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.Y. Nagata, has received the Distinguished Unit Badge for in three battles as a member of the 442nd Japanese American Combat Team in Italy and France.
Pfc. Henry Heinen, in the 8th Army Division for four years, with 19 months overseas, has been commended for action in the weeks leading up to Germany’s surrender in April. He holds the Purple Heart with one cluster and has five battle stars. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Heinen.
The Federal Works Agency has approved Eunice’s application for $6,000 for advance planning for the city’s street facilities, which will cost $165,000. It also approved $1,400 for planning an incinerator, according to Mayor Chester Derbes.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced an 80-day duck and goose season with a daily bag limit of 10 ducks.
St. Landry Schools opened on Sept. 10 and Act 239, requiring all children between 7 and 15 to attend 180 days will be enforced, Supt. S.A. Moncla said.
Some of the best drainage jobs in the history of Eunice have been recently completed and a number of others are under constuction. Street Commissioner P.M. Prudhomme said their completion should take care of runoff from any rains.
