A report on the 1970 census stated the city of Eunice population was 11,390, a gain of less than 1 percent over the 1960 census. The parish population was 80,364, down from 81,493 in the 1960 census.
Mardi Gras board members were announced. They were Adam Daigle, Hillman Smith, Eddie Brown, Roosevelt Smith, Nat Smith, Alvin Rougeau, Nathan Cormier, Cedric Fruge and Ferdie Labbe. The head captain was Roosevelt Smith and Nathan Cormier was the rear captain. Membership dues were $3.
Suzanne DeRouen and Sandy Soileau were shown in a photo with Mayor Wilson Moosa announcing that Camp Fire Girl cookies were on sale.
The caption under two photos stated that crowds stormed the Winn-Dixie food store in Eunice as the 10-cent sale started. The sale was to last all week. With almost every item priced at 10 cents, there were some exceptions such as a pound of bacon for 49 cents.
Manuel Truck & Equipment Co. advertised Firestone tires for Chevy IIs, Comets, Corvairs, Darts, Falcons and Valiants at $10.95 each, plus $1.78 federal excise tax and the tire off your car. Add $3 for whitewalls.
