The following is from the August 1997 files of The Eunice News.
The Eunice News reported that a Burger King restaurant would be locating in Eunice. The company had not made an announcement, but Mayor Ken Peart said a grand opening was scheduled Nov. 11.
The Flamingo Club advertised it was under new ownership. The club, located on U.S. 90 between Crowley and Rayne, advertised Johnny Allen was the week’s star. Beer was $1 and drinks $2 during happy hour from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
The Eunice Care Center Volunteers Auxiliary were treated to a lunch where they were presented certificates of recognition. A photo of the luncheon participants included Tressella Melancon, president; Kim Houser, administrator; Mary Lavergne, vice president; Flo Fontenot, housekeeping and laundry; Donnie Richard, maintenance; Myra Deranger, treasurer; Ruby Bertrand, secretary; Saundra Frey; Ethleyn Duplechain; and Felicia Lavergne.
Workers at a construction site at 8th Street and Laurel Avenue were pictured wearing sombreros to beat the heat. They were Calem Fontenot, Timmy Gotreaux, Ryan Martel, Greg Arnaud, “Lawman” and Craig Arnaud.
