The following are from the November 1998 files of The Eunice News.
Gary “Goose” Fontenot won the election for police chief defeating incumbent Charles Manuel.
Soil judging winners for Eunice High School’s FFA chapter were shown in a photo. They were Kyle Fontenot, Rusty Vincent, Tony Jordon, Alexa Prudhomme and Ben Smith. The advisor was Kerry Saucier.
Lt. Randy Fontenot, a former member of the Eunice Police Department, was presented with a retirement badge from Police Chief Charles Manuel. Fontenot had served 16 years with the police department.
Erich Loewer III, CPA, joined the firm of Darnall, Sikes & Frederick.
Manuel Tire celebrated its 50th anniversary on Nov. 1.
Jessica Kirkpatrick, 9, a fourth-grader at Branch Elementary, won third place in the Cajun French Music Association poster contest at the Lake Charles CFMA Festival. She is the daughter of Marlinda and Joel Kirkpatrick of Church Point and granddaughter of Patsy and Dave Kirkpatrick of Church Point and Jeanette Cormier of Eunice and the late Amos Cormier.
The Eunice High Bobcats won the District III title with a 19-6 win over Leesville. Coach Paul Trosclair’s team finished the season with a 7-3 record.
The St. Edmund Blue Jays won the District 5-1A title with a 24-0 win over the Sacred Heart Trojans.
