St. Edmund’s Blue Jays downed St. Maria Goretti of Lake Arthur 14-12 in the second annual Pony Bowl at Bobcat Field. John Lafleur of Eunice was winner of a registered Shetland pony given away at halftime. Charlie Montz, Pat Manuel and Robert Robira led the Jays’ offense.

Jimmy Lee Fuselier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Oley Fuselier, served as commentator for the first Mass said in the English language for the student body of St. Edmund’s School.

Eunice and Jonesboro tied 13-13 in their football playoff game, with the Bobcats losing the quarter-final game on the basis of having one less first down.

The City Council voted to purchase 5.7 acres of land for hangers at the municipal airport.

The extra-high curb on the South side of Park between Second and Third Street is being reduced to a three-level step arrangement, according to Street Supt. Launey Matt.

The LSU Board of Supervisors announced that the new junior college at Eunice will be just outside the city limits on property donated by the Arnold LeDoux heirs.

Mary LaHaye received the Rotary Club’s Outstanding Citizen award.

Major property holders signed a petition to create a modern shopping plaza on Second Street.

A new and modern poultry processing plant is to be built at Laurel and Eula. Owners will be Ashton and Harry Bellard and Leonce Stelly, all of Opelousas.

The Rev. W.F. Town, Jr. is approaching his 20th anniversary as pastor of Eunice’s First Baptist Church.

Jack Eaton has purchased May Bros. Lumber from International Minerals and Chemical Corp. and will keep it housed in Eunice.
