Eunice native Hollis Arnold, is off to India for service in the Peace Corps. He is a USL graduate.

An overflow Eunice crowd greeted gubernatorial candidate Chep Morrison. He was in a runoff for Louisiana’s top spot with Columbia’s John McKeithen, who won the election.

Patients have been moved into the new wing at Moosa Memorial Hospital. About 85 beds will be at the facility by May. The hospital opened in 1956.

Continental Oil Co., which has supplied Eunice gas for almost 28 years, has advised it will not renew the supply contract that expires this month.

H.S. “Andy” Jackson has been named the first full-time executive of the Eunice Chamber of Commerce. He is a former farm implement dealer. His salary is $400 monthly, with a $100 car expense.

Hollywood screen star Ronald Reagan, who has become increasingly well-known as a militant conservative, will speak at a fund-raising event next month in Lafayette.

Organization of a state library service will begin in St. Landry Parish in July. The system will operate with a branch in Eunice as of the first of next year, according to State Librarian Sallie Farrell.

The annual audit shows the St. Landry Parish sheriff’s salary is $12,099 a year and that total deputies’ salary expense is $227,000.
