A large addition, including a game room and a locker room, will be added to the Eunice Country Club, Hubert Rougeau said the bar and the ladies’ lounge will be remodeled.

The long-awaited massive drainage project that will cut across the heart of the city is moving closer to reality, according to Councilman Murphy Richard. Rights-of-way negotiations have held up the project, he said.

Wayne Miller, at .455, currently has the highest Little League batting average. Jack Stagg has the season’s only home run to this point.

Paving of Ritchie Road from West Maple Avenue to the Acadia Parish line is moving closer to reality with all property right of way acquired, according to Chamber of Commerce committee chairman Eddie Brown.

Eighty-five Eunice Campfire Girls attended five days of camp at Chicot State Park.

The Thibodeaux Insurance team edged Mt. Calvary Cemetery on the last night of the Petroleum No. 1 Bowling League to win the title by two games.

Margaret, Joanie and Gregroy Brown, children of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown harvested a 27-pound melon from one watermelon plant that sprouted in their yard, appropriately enough on Vine Street.

The Eunice Can-Cans defeated the Mamou Cajuns in an inter-city softball game. Eunice players are Janice Taylor, Judy Rogers, Jeanelle Darbonne, Judy Sarver, Cathy Edmunds, Gwen LeJeune, Beverly Golman, Caula Stagg, Pauline Dupre, Sandra Taylor, Cindy Roy, Priscilla Fontenot and Thanna Atherton. “Pee Wee” LeJeune is coach.

New staff at Eunice High for the upcoming year include assistant football coach James Fontenot and teachers Melvin Bellow and Bobbye Jean Trichell.
