Cynthia Fink is Homecoming queen at Eunice High. The junior is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Roland Fink. Her maids are Sue Lowe, Cheryl Moody, Betty Faye Byars, Jennifer Penn, Catherine Sittig and Linda Hundley.

Mary Horton Vail of Lake Charles drowned in Calcasieu River while she and her husband were running trot lines. She was 1957 Eunice High Homecoming queen and editor of the school newspaper.

Oscar Frey, 49, well-known farmer, rodeo promoter and livestock enthusiast, was killed when kicked int he chest by a bronco horse while attempting to shut the gate of a chute the horse was in.

New 4-H officers at St. Edmund’s are Kenneth LeJeune, vice president; Tommy Voinche, reporter; Francis Manuel, president; Phyllis Caswell, secretary; Pat Manuel, executive committee; Darryl Carte, treasurer; and Bobby Robira, recreation.

Former Eunice High quarterback Fred Byars, 18, son of Mr. and Mrs. Spec Byars, is now playing linebacker for Southwestern. He is a freshman.

Roderick Aguillard has been appointed to the board of Hospital Service District No. 1. He is with Eunice Motor Co.

Senior Francis Montelaro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philip Montelaro, is St. Edmund Homecoming queen. Senior Maids are Pat Miller, Kay Smith, Helena DeRosier, Marie Francois, Lynette Richard, Carolyn Bennett and Clara Schneider.

Last year’s Southwest Louisiana Coach of the Year Curtis Joubert will lead the Eunice High basketball squad again this year. Senior players include Van Ardoin, Dwight Verges, Charles Duke, Nicky Pavich, Bobby Quirk and Duffy Harris.

St. Ed’s meets South Cameron in the first round of football playoffss at the end of the month. Jebby Montz is quarterback, with Mike Manuel, Charlie Fontenot and Nilas Young also in the backfield. The line, left to right: Stephen Guillory, Freddie Fruge, Conrad Nunez, Clifton Delafosse, Bent DeLay, Kenneth Lejuene and Roderick “Mamou” Fuselier.
