Fire strikes Eunice house

There were no injuries when fire raced through a Eunice house Monday afternoon.
The Rev. Donald Freeman, owner of the house, discovered the fire at about 4:30 p.m.
Fire Chief Mike Arnold said when he arrived at the East Magnolia Street and North Beulah Avenue location, “It was almost a lost cause driving up.”
The cause of the fire is undetermined, he said.
Arnold said there was smoke all the way to railroad tracks north of the house.
“There was heavy fire shooting out all of the windows on the north side,” Arnold said.
Freeman heard what sounded like fireworks on the Magnolia Street side of the house, Arnold said.
When Freeman opened a door on the west side of the house he could see flames on the east side, Arnold said.
Arnold said it was fortunate a house south of the burning did not catch fire.
“We managed to concentrate efforts on it and the garage in the back end,” he said.
Fire units from Eunice, St. Landry Parish Fire District 6, Acadia Parish Fire District 4, Mamou and Richard were at the scene.
The last fire unit to leave was at about 10:30 p.m.
