Flood Watch is in effect today; use extreme Caution when driving
Slown Down! A Flood Watch is in effect today for most of Acadiana, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood watch is in effect today as more storms will develop and move across Acadiana. Rainfall totals during the overnight period have exceeded three inches in many areas and a few locations have recorded up to six inches of rain since Tuesday afternoon.
Low pressure spinning along the Texas/Oklahoma border will continue to help pump in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. The air mass is very unstable, so it won't take much to keep the storms going. Frequent lightning, small hail, and flooding rains will be possible through the day.
The rains are expected to stick around through Thursday into Friday. Some showers will linger into Saturday. Even though we've been well below normal on rainfall for the year, particularly during this spring season, those numbers should equalize to the normal by the early part of the weekend. Most areas should expect an additional 3-5 inches of rain by Saturday.
Later this week rainfall will break up, skies will become partly cloudy. Hot and humid weather should be around as we begin the month of June this weekend.
