Grand jury indicts 3 on murder charges
Three people were indicted on murders charges by the St. Landry Parish Grand Jury in report to 27th Judicial District Court Judge A. Gerard Caswell on Wednesday.
The indictments were announced in a news release from District Attorney Earl Taylor.
Indictments were filed against:
Kiara Deshon Rideau, 26, 700 block of Hiram Street, Opelousas, for the second-degree murder of Quint Alex Carrier, on or about Oct. 24, 2015.
Glaston J. Alexander, Jr., 50, of the 300 block of Country Ridge Road, Opelousas for the first- degree murder of Willie Mae Williams, a person over the age of 65, on or about Nov. 14, 2015.
Jamal Scott James, 26, of the 100 block of Tisem Road, Opelousas, for the first-degree murder of Marjorie Taylor, a person over the age of 65, on or about Sept. 17, 2014.
A second degree murder conviction carries a mandatory sentence of life imprisonment without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
A person convicted of first degree murder shall be sentenced to death or a mandatory life sentence at hard labor without the benefit of probation, parole or suspension of sentence.
