A policeman has resigned after being accused of sexual battery involving a step-daughter.
Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon announced that Investigators with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office have arrested 44-year-old Howard “Jamie” Doucet of West Joseph Street in Iota following an investigation into an incident that occurred approximately two years ago.
Melancon stated that the 19-year-old victim, a step-daughter of the suspect, reported the incident to the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office earlier this week and following the investigation they were able to charge Doucet with sexual battery. Doucet was arrested without incident and placed in the Acadia Parish Jail. District Judge John Trahan set bond at $25,000.
According to Iota Police Chief Scotty Pousson, Doucet was employed with his department and will resign.
The Doucet family home burned to the ground in February.
